Salinization: Accumulation of salts in the soil, making it unsuitable for growing plants.

Salinization affects more than 2 million hectares in the EU, mainly in Mediterranean countries.
It is a result of human intervention /improper practices/, it is a serious form
of soil degradation and is considered a major cause of desertification.
